Applesauce, a simple and sweet recipe. It's healthy and delicious, and you can use it in plenty of different dishes. To make it you only need 5 ingredients!

This applesauce is one of the simplest sweet recipes you'll ever make. It's super healthy and you can add it in sweet and savory dishes, although my favorite way of using it is as an egg substitute in baking.

I learned this easy recipe from my mom, and although it's not complicated at all, it still is delicious and I don't think I'll ever get tired of it. Besides, it can be a super light dessert but you can also have it for breakfast or as a snack.

On the other hand, this applesauce is very versatile because you can prepare lots of different recipes with it. It's great for customizing it to taste, and this version doesn't contain any kind of artificial additives or preservatives.

Applesauce, a nutritious, healthy, and sweet recipe. It's very easy to prepare and it's also really affordable, and to make it you only need 5 easy-to-find ingredients.

How to make applesauce - Step by step

Step-by-step photos of how to make applesauce
  • Place the apples, sugar, water, cinnamon stick, and lemon juice in a saucepan (photo 1). Cook over high heat until the mixture starts to boil, and then cook the applesauce over medium heat for 40 minutes (photo 2).
  • Remove the cinnamon stick (photo 3).
  • Blend the applesauce or use a masher or a fork if you want to, but this step is optional (photo 4).
  • Serve immediately.

Pro tips

  • You can use any kind of apples to make this recipe.
  • I used coconut sugar, but feel free to use any type of sweeteners like stevia or date syrup. You can omit it if you want to.
  • I suggest you add a little bit of sugar first, then try the applesauce and if you feel like it needs to be sweeter, add some more of it.
  • Lemon juice will help this recipe keep longer in good condition. You can omit it if you want your applesauce to be super sweet, though.
  • This recipe is perfect for using apples that have almost gone bad.

How long will this applesauce keep?

If you have any leftovers, keep them in an airtight container in the fridge for 5-7 days.

Can you freeze applesauce?

Yes, you can! Just wait until it's cool first, put it in a freezer-friendly container or bag, and keep it in the freezer for up to 3 months. To thaw, just transfer it to the fridge 1 or 2 days before eating it.

How to use applesauce

Applesauce is very versatile and you can use it in plenty of different recipes. I love to have it with some bread and eat it as a healthy snack, and I also use it as an egg substitute in baking.

It works great with recipes like vegan brownies or vegan pancakes. A regular egg would be ยผ cup of applesauce (1 tbsp).

Once I initially commented I clicked the -Notify me when new comments are added- checkbox and now every time a comment is added I get four emails with the same comment. Is there any way you possibly can take away me from that service? Thanks!
